In the center of Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts of Fudan University is the famous "double eyelids" master building. Its rooftop garden is a piece of artificially created landscape wonderland quietly blooming. It is a 400-square-meter rooftop garden named "Floating Arillia", whose design concept originated from the romantic understanding of the beauty of landscape in nature and the clever fusion of modern architectural art.
The core difficulty of the design lies in how to create the shape of the mountains by using weather-resistant steel and lightweight steel structure under limited loading conditions. The designers of Shanghai Vimeo Landscape skillfully utilized the principles of structural mechanics to design a lightweight yet strong support system, which makes the main scene "floating" Mount Alilua visually appear to be suspended in the air, and the waterfall part of the waterfall cleverly hides the support structure, which is reminiscent of the mysterious and unpredictable floating mountain ranges in the movie "Avatar".
To achieve a spectacular view of the surrounding nature, the designers chose lightweight soil and matched it with resistant vegetation that not only grows and flourishes in low-maintenance conditions, but also provides a vibrant green space for visitors. In addition, the selection and layout of the plants were carefully considered to create an environment that is suitable for visitors to visit and take a break, as well as for meditation and relaxation.
In the ground floor hall below the garden, the designers used white sandstone to create a scene of water and sails that is artistic and Zen-like. This design not only beautifies the space, but also has a profound meaning - encouraging students to go forward, like a boat cutting through the waves in a river or lake, racing forward.
Overall, the "Floating Alilua" is not just a rooftop garden project, it is an attempt to integrate modern architecture with natural aesthetics, a seamless combination of technology and art, and a quiet and philosophical message to every visitor who steps into this oasis.
